The Guitar Style of Jerry Reed yFavorite Lines The old ring of standing stones at the crumbling Foxe ruin was rud to be a magic place Men and women throughout the land had used the mysterious circle for generations in order to find a mate The legend was unlikelyes but Alys had gone and Piers had found her in the midst of a very unlikely set of circumstances Perhapsperhaps Hallowshire wasn t Cecily s true vocation which might explain her sudden fierce reluctance Perhaps she too should visit the Foxe Ring Perhaps p 15 ARCBefore commenting on the actual story I need to address the cover The cover made me think I was picking up book with Scottish lairds I know the back of the book never stated Scotland but with that plaid I assumed Scotland would be worked into the story It is not I kind of feel tricked Never Seduce a Scoundrel is book two in Grothaus Foxe sister s trilogy The main characters from book one Alys and Piers make cameo appearances Despite never reading Never Kiss a Stranger book one I got the gist of it with the bits and pieces Heather Grothaus included in Never Seduce a Scoundrel Grothaus has created a story set in medieval England in the ear 1277 with a hint of the paranormal It doesn t involve zombies vampires or werewolves but it does involve the unexplainableLady Cecily the heroine is considered saintly by all around her but at the point the reader is introduced to her she is feeling less and less saintly by the minute She is beginning to uestion her decision to enter the nunnery One of things that bothers her is her attraction to bad boywomanizer Lord Oliver Bellecote He runs through women like ale but still holds Cecily s attention though she dare not show
itNot long after the reader is introduced to Cecily she makes a decision which is totally out long after the reader is introduced to Cecily she makes a decision which is totally out character she gave her virginity to Lord Oliver This was hard for me to swallow because in the 1200s the repercussions would have been deadly her reputation would have been in the dirt You can guess where the story goes from here Really don t work to hard It s a normal OMG moment in a romance heroine s life and not at all surprisingI got to tell a I wasn t taken with the hero Oliver is
a reprobate who eventually wants to become a better man for his heroine The sad reprobate who eventually wants to become a better man for his heroine The sad is that he constantly acts out like a child He is a spoiled member of the aristocracy that I often associate with Regency romance novels as opposed to those set in the medieval times He was a reprobate who met his match with a woman who didn t fawn at his feet I never felt the alpha that I associate with romance books set in medieval timesThe story itself was mainly about the romancedating dance being performed by the hero and heroine Mixed in were the machinations of Cecily s older sister and the mysterious death of Oliver s older brother The ruthlessness of Cecily s eldest sibling Sybilla was a major contrast to Cecily s character and that of the Riders of the Sea youngest Foxe sister who came across as a weakling I couldn t believe such a wimpy woman was given her own bookIfou re knowledgeable about women s roles in medieval England or have the medieval England of other romance writers in Jewish Women Speak About Jewish Matters your mindou need to set it aside Grothaus has her own take on it and while the actions of the characters made me think of Regency England it was still an enjoyable book There s action from the beginning to the happily ever after ending The paranormal aspects are very light and the story itself is sensual It also sets up the events for the final installment of the trilogy Sybilla Foxe s story While I won t be re reading Never Seduce a Scoundrel there was nothing that makes me say don t read this It s one of those books ou borrow from the library or a friendScooper Speaks Didn t care for this book The characters personalities
*And Motivations Are Inconsistent At *motivations are inconsistent At Cecily the main lead female is portrayed as a chaste virgin who thinks that men hold her at arm s length because of her purity Other people in the kingdom have been known to make fun of her because of her chastity and conclude that she s frigid She loses her virginity within the first few chapters by the drunken leading man who is a kno. Manner Outside In An outside in an setting while he has a broken arm Because of his insobriety he doesn t remember the incident the following morning and there are conseuences to the actions of their behavior of course For the remainder of the story I was completely frustrated with the turn of events and the constant unnecessary tension Other than the fact that the author has decided that these two completely unsuitable mates are destined to be together by the end of the story I really don t know why they are For the remainder of the story they are completely spared any further intimacy with each other and they are paired with other partners who ultimately have darker motives for the match making When the fated couple finally does pair at the end of story the dialogue is cheesy and corny and their coupling is non descriptive This book was a complete disappointment I really liked both the hero and the heroine as a gut reaction although each of them did things that annoyed me I had a hard time believing that someone has militantly spiritual as the heroine would just jump into bed at a moment s notice and an even harder time believing that she didn t seem concerned about this behavior I felt like the conflict between her actions and her beliefs were glossed over too uickly The hero definitely had ounger son syndrome and so was sometimes frustratingly inactive The romance between them was sizzling at first but I felt that the story didn t really allow the relationship time to develop so that I could fully buy into the HEA Overall worth the time but not life changing Second in the Foxe Sister Trilogy Heather Grothaus continues to enthrall us with the lives and loves of the Foxe SistersCecily Foxe middle sister to Sybilla and Alys is practically considered a Saint for her life of calm gentle sacrifice to others Although not a member of the convent everybody thinks it s just a matter of time And that time is drawing near But is that what Cecily really wants She has always lived her life to serve others but there is a small part of her that wonders what ifWhat is her childhood betrothal to Oliver Bellecote hadn t been broken by their parents ReviewThis is the second book in the Foxe Sisters Trilogy Overall I gave it 35 stars It wasn t as much fun as the first book but it was still very well written This book has Cecily trying to decide between a life as a wife or life as a nun Not only does she fall in love with the Scoundrel but she also attracts the eye of another man who if we hadn t met Oliver first I could very easily believe was her intended love interest for the book Ms Gothaus creates very believable characters and is crafting an understory in the first two books of the series that will reach its culmination in the third I am very intrigued by this understory and I m looking forward to reading the third
book to find the answers to uestions that have been raisedIn the first book I mentioned the to find the answers to uestions that have been raisedIn the first book I mentioned the of witchcraft being presented and I thought it was done somewhat poorly I think this book eluded to it in a much believable manner and less in our face I liked it a lot Again this was part of the understory spanning all the books and hopefully the third book will explain all to usWhat I Liked This was another well written book I felt the chemistry between the heroine and the hero I felt the struggles that the heroine faced and enjoyed the happy endingWhat I DislikedThis book didn t have as much adventure or humor as the first book did which I felt was disappointing I really enjoyed Heather Grothaus s new book Never Seduce a Scoundrel In this book ou will find two lonely people who find each other in the *MIST OF THE PAGAN RUINS OF *of the pagan ruins of Foxe Ring The Foxe Ring legend says that a woman who visits at the full moon shall meet her intended husband But when Lady Cecily Foxe known as Saint Cecily because of her religious vowgoes there she doesn t expect to find in the rain a drunken Lord Oliver Bellecote who falls from his horse literally at her feet When Cecily runs to the deserted castle ruins for shelter fr. of love won and lost You ll enjoy this book for it s different look at romancelove won and lost You ll enjoy this book for it s different look at romance when Engine Performance Diagnostics you think things are figured out another twist is given toou I loved the idea the man admitted his love first He couldn t understand it but it was there This one is full of strong women characters that will keep ou on our toesI didn t find any problems with this oneI gave this one a 5 out of 5 books because of the twist near the end I enjoyed this book although the graphic description of the sex scene in the beginning is than I remember from the first book in this series Beyond that I felt a little like Rachel from friends especially when the vicar was introduced I had to chuckle a little So while certainly predictable in points it was still enjoyable and uite an easy read I look forward to reading the third book in the series as it should focus on the most enigmatic of the sisters SybillaI would not have found this series except for the first in the series was a group read with one of my Goodreads groups So I enjoy being able to stretch outside of the norm.
